SHOP HAND

MakerLabs is seeking a part-time Shop Hand to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and organized storage of items within our makerspace.

Various tasks include cleaning, organizing, cutting down and organizing wood and other materials, selling materials, as well as assisting skilled workers with their duties. The ideal candidate would bring their own experience to the team while growing and strengthening the overall vision of MakerLabs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a neat and organized work area

  • Operate power tools under the direction of skilled workers

  • Move materials and equipment around the shop

  • Sell materials as needed

  • Assist skilled workers with their duties

  • Follow safety guidelines and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

    • 12 - 9pm availability, 3 days per week

    • Ability to identify various different types of wood species, wood composites, and plastics

    • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools

    • Able to lift 50 lbs

    • Computer literate, can adapt to new software systems quickly

    • Minimum typing speed of 40wpm

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

    • Must be self-motivated, a fast learner who takes initiative

    • Possess a constant desire to learn, improve, and optimize everything

    • Strong sense of situational awareness

    • Strong organization skills with attention to detail

    • Woodworking knowledge an asset

Job Type: Part-time, 3 days a week. Hours are from Noon to 9pm and candidates must be available to work on Sundays.

Starting Wage: $21/hour
